Pouakai Hut

Serviced Hut. Great sheltered aspect overlooking New Plymouth and all points North. May not be so good south due to blocking by the main peak. This hut is quite busy with both tourists and locals being just a 2 hour walk from the road in. It is up all the way on wooden steps and a painful descent with a full pack. Should be able to tie a squid pole off to the posts of the entrance porch. The flat mound 200m above the hut woud make a better operating spot. The high point in the Pouakai range is a further 3 km walk to the South west. Not the easiest hike but a SOTA peak awaits.
