Map Reference, NZMS 17, Hamilton, R12.; The island is named for W A Graham (1841-1916) who: Surveyed the original Town of Hamilton East in 1864 (SO 201)|Was a long term resident of Hamilton and a former Mayor (1880's)|At one time owned land (1886-1916) on left bank of river adjacent to Island.
