Description
Small island in Lake Maraetai; Was locally known as "Dead Dog" for many years (origin unknown). The Māori translation of Dead Dog is Matekuri and this was recommended by the Mangakino Community Council in 1976. Island was formed about 1953 through hydro development i.e. raising of the lake level.
