Acheron is taken from the name in Greek mythology, has an association with Mt Cerberus, also located in the Livingstone Mountains area. Cerberus was the 3 headed dog who guarded the entrance to Hades, Acheron was the shallow lake or river across which one had to go to enter Hades.
