Info Origin
An unnamed mountain feature and a well known campsite for climbers of Mount Longfellow. Named after the nearby Gabriel Stream. Gabriel was a leading character in Henry Wadsworth Longfellows epic poem Evangeline. Gabriel and Evangeline fall in love but are separated by cruel circumstances. Eventually Evangeline finds him but he dies of illness in her arms. Mount Longfellow is named after the poet. Applying Gabriel to the tarn is associative with the nearby Gabriel stream, Gabriel Hut and in keeping with the theme of the poet and his characters. Assigning a new name for a feature not named.
