Name submitted in September 1971, by the New Zealand Forest Service. This lake was under intensive study by a hydrological group of the Ministry of Works, and the lake name was in use for scientific papers to be published. The lake had been shown on previous map as Lake Balance. Named as such because the lake is formed by the melt from the Ivory Glacier. Instead of "Balance Lake", Shown on maps
