One of a series of names proposed in the North-west Nelson district, to facilitate Search and Rescue operations in the area. Name suggested by Lands and Survey Department, Nelson. Mr Barfoot was the leader of an Auckland University Tramping Club party, that visited the area, and produced a map that has been constantly used by trampers, shooters, etc.
