Feature shown on: NZMS 260 P29-Q29 1998; NZMS 1 S36; NZTopo50-BR29 958719; Probably named for Elter Water, a small lake in the Lake District, England, and paired with Lake Grassmere/Kapara Te Hau to the north. Grasmere is similarly, a larger lake to the north of Elter Water in the Lake District, England.
