Description
A small lagoon located between Barrett and Cowling Roads, approximately 5km southwest of New Plymouth city centre. Feature shown on: NZTopo50-BH29 900726; Te Atiawa statement: Rotokare is the original Te Atiawa name for this lagoon. Rotokare is on the edge of Kororako Pā and was an important resource gathering site. Ngati Te Whiti korero is that the lake is protected by kaitiaki – an eel with the head of a dog.
