Description
Mangaturutu Hut is tucked in a small beech basin, on the sheltered north-side of the ridge. It looks out north, with views all the way to Mt Edgecumbe (Putauaki) above Whakatane. Not having received the standard Kaweka makeover it remains a stock NZFS 6-bunk hut with an open fire. Most trampers seem to bypass the hut, and it receives far fewer visitors than Te Puke or Venison Tops. Most use comes from fly-in hunters. Standard Hut
