Feature shown on NZMS 18 24 1972; NZMS 10 30 1966; NZMS 122 Fiordland National Park 1968; NZTopo50-CF04 011908; Discovered and named in 1887 by Andreas Reischek because his dog Caesar first drew his attention to it while hunting birds. 'Fiordland National Park, Chalky Inlet. In 1887 the ornithologist Andreas Reischek named the lake after his dog, which discovered it while out hunting.'
