An unusual stretched design, probably an SF70 thats had an addition at some stage. Clean dry warm and very comfortable hut with 8 bunks, mattresses, a wood fire thats good for heating but slow for cooking and a new pit toilet in 2014.
Situated on a sunny open terrace above the river with a good view down valley.

Basic Hut/bivvy as described by DOC is actually a very comfortable, ex research station, lockwood cottage with three tier bunks to sleep six. Its outstanding feature is an outdoor wood fired hot bath. The bird life is prolific - wekas prowl the clearing, kiwis are often heard calling at night.
And it can rain! Average rainfall is over 6m per year.

Basic Hut/bivvy. A compact standup bivvy. 2 bunks. Clean dry and freshly painted inside and scrub trimmed back in 2011. Note it has been incorrectly positioned on maps for years. Easy to locate if you know its just inside the scrub opposite canyon creek.
A lovely hut tucked just inside the bushedge. Sheltered with plenty of firewood and a woodburner. Tank water. Marginal mobile coverage. 6 bunks.

Casino is a standard Urawera hut, fitted with 3 bunks (4 mattresses) in the style of Rangaakapua. Sitting in a clearing above the river is is a pleasant spot with sunshine and views of the treetops. Tank water and fireplace. The river is 150m away.
The hut is popular with possumers, and some hunters. Trampers make only occasional appearances in the hut book.
