MTEAC Lodge on Mt Taranaki

This is a well established comfortable hut on the southern Eastern Slopes of Fanthams Peak on Mt Taranaki.
It has a south easterly aspect and should be high enough to work line of sight across to the south island and down as far as Palmerston North and beyond. West and north will be a challenge due to the shadow of the Main peak of Taranaki. Should be able to find somewhere to tie a pole off to but the peak slopes up quickly behind the hut.
Kawakawa Hut is a 6-bunker with a wood burning stove, plenty of firewood nearby, and water from the river. It sits back in mature Manuka bush on the valley floor, 50m from the river. The hut is 4wd accessible (with permission) via Kawakawa station, but despite this is in good condition: a pleasant hut.
Standard DOC hut
A bookable hut in the eastern Ruahines. The hut lies at the end of Rangitane Rd, accessed from Mangaweka. However the last section of the road to the park boundary crosses private land and the farmer stopped allowing access in 2012. Whilst this situation persists, the base can only be accessed on foot via either the Hikurangi Range or Mokai Patea Range.
The hut requires booking from DOC, and a key is needed for access. A fee is charged (not backcountry pass). This is effectively a house with gas cooking, a woodburner with wet-back for hot water, and beds in multiple rooms.
A box-standard 6-bunk forestry hut at the mouth of the Kiwi Stream. Designated as a historic hut it is maintained as close a possible to its original form. Open fire, tank and river water.

Koranga Forks is another popular 6-bunker. Again, it gets a low of use by fishermen as it is easily accessible down the Koranga River from Moanui Road on a good sidle track. Trampers are also common at weekends, walking the Tawa-Koranga Forks loop.

A basic 2-mattress dog-box bivvy amongst leatherleaf on the eastern side of the Ruahine tops. Water from a tank, sit-on-the-box-and-admire-the-view longdrop 20m beyond looking down the Makaroro valley - the best feature of the hut.

A basic A-frame bivvy 1km south of Lagoon Saddle. Sleeps 2, with 1 bunk / mattress and space for 1 more on the floor.
The basic Lagoon Hut opposite sleeps 2 more, but has no mattresses.
No fire. River water.
